A few months ago my uncle held her son's
wedding celebration. the bride comes from western Java
and she is Sundanese The procession of the ceremony and reception that was
held at my uncle's house attended by
family from both
sides and it took place with custom
Java and using Java
language. Many of the invited guests, especially the bride's family did not understand what is being said because they do not understand
the language Java. So every time someone
gave a speech the host must translate it into Indonesian. While the speaker trying to make jokes,
guests simply stare silently without giving any response means, only after they understand and eventually translated to
laugh even if late. Despite that the
wedding will still take place and sacred wisdom.
And after a week-laws which then held the event to bring home the bride from the groom to the bride's house. If the previous event held by the Javanese traditional celebration party held at home of the bride was held with indigenous Javanese. so we of the family of man came to the house of the women. The journey that is pretty far Salatiga to Brebes that must be taken for approximately 14 hours by bus. after arriving there we were welcome to take a break before the procession following the event to be held.
Upon entering the residence of the bride we were greeted with a parade of tambourines and when we reached the home page of a barrage of firecrackers ignited as a welcome event. some people among us, especially the elderly feel surprised to see the fireworks that end with the sound deafening. there is a grandmother who was angry and there is also child bawling when firecrackers ignited because they feel fear. But after being given the explanation that it is already common practice and has become part of the Sundanese tradition in organizing a wedding ceremony and party committee eventually apologized the event can be continued until completed.
That piece of my experience about cross cultural understanding.
really nice story, telling the mixture of javanese and sundanese culture :0 it can be the reference for the next who will have a marriage with sundanese..
BalasHapusthat is fun, using another language that different to be understanding by sundanese...

So every time someone gave a speech the host must translate it into Indonesian.
